‘Out of touch with reality’: Iran slams US claims of ‘victory’, says Vietnam war ‘same script’

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi criticized U.S. communications on the current regional conflict on Friday, comparing Washington’s messaging to discredited Vietnam War-era briefings.In a post onThe press hadn’t forgotten either; those fanciful briefings from the front were known as the “Five O’Clock Follies.”Aragochi believes the current messaging in the U.S. reflects the same disconnect from reality: “Fast forward to today: same script, different stages; Hegseth stepped up, but the message is still disconnected from reality.”The foreign minister also claimed there were discrepancies between official statements and recent events on the ground. He pointed to the reported downing of an F-35 as well as the strategic maneuvers of the USS Gerald R. Ford and USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carriers as evidence that the conflict was far from the lopsided victory Washington portrayed. He concluded:“The U.S. government says one thing, the reality is another. Just when U.S. authorities claim Iran’s air defenses are gone, an F-35 is shot. When they declare the Iranian navy is doomed, the USS Gerald Ford turns around and the USS Abraham Lincoln drifts away. Different decade, same ‘we are winning.'”
