New Delhi: Ministry of External Affairs celebrated first anniversary on Thursday operation sindorClaims India has given ‘befitting reply’ to Pakistan for supporting cross-border terrorism Pahalgam terror attack.MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told a media briefing that the world has realized the truth about the Pahalgam attack in April 2025 and reiterated India’s right to defend against terrorism.Jaiswal said, “Today, we are commemorating the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor. The world saw the truth behind the Pahalgam terror attack. We gave a befitting response to Pakistan’s support for cross-border terrorism.”“Pakistan has long used cross-border terrorism as a tool of national policy,” he added, stressing that India would continue to strengthen the global fight against terrorism. “We Indians have every right to defend ourselves against terrorism. We will continue our efforts to strengthen the global fight against terrorism,” Jaiswal said.
MEA reiterates stance on Indus Waters Treaty
Jaiswal also reiterated India’s stance on the Indus Waters Treaty, saying the agreement remained on hold due to Pakistan’s support for terrorism.“Our position on the Indus Waters Treaty is consistent. Inland waterway transport is suspended in response to Pakistan’s support for cross-border terrorism. Pakistan must credibly and irrevocably abandon its support for cross-border terrorism,” he said.
Operation Sindo launched after Pahalgam attack
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. As part of the action, indian armed forces Strikes were carried out against terror launch pads in Pakistan as well as in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.The Indian Army targeted nine terrorist launch pads associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Mujahideen, killing more than 100 terrorists in the operation.Earlier today, Lieutenant General Rajiv Gay said the operation showed that “Atmanirbhar is not just a slogan, it is indeed a force multiplier”, highlighting the role of homeland defense systems and coordinating multi-agency efforts.He said the operation achieved its objectives through “precision firing and sharp impacts” that disrupted the enemy’s command and control system but did not drag India into a protracted conflict.Ghai also claimed that Operation Sindoor was “not the end” but the “beginning” of India’s continued fight against terrorism.
