Opelousas Walmart shooting latest: Two in custody after Creswell Lane shooting; first details on suspect

Local channel KADN reported that two of the detainees were teenagers and that others in the gang fled the store.

Two people are currently in custody and no injuries have been reported to date. The scene remains active as investigators continue to process evidence and gather information,” a news release from the Opelousas Police Department said.

They added that Walmart is temporarily closed until the investigation is completed. “Law enforcement is asking the public to stay away from the area so officers and investigators can safely conduct their work. We thank the public for their patience and cooperation during the ongoing investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available,” the statement added.

One person posted a photo showing a heavy police presence in the parking lot. However, they falsely claimed there was an active shooter inside.

Meanwhile, others described what they saw at the scene. “They weren’t messing around in the Walmart in Opelousas. Just passing by. At least 12 police cars, 3 ambulances. I live nearby and have been hearing the sirens for a while. There was an accident on 190, another accident at Lowes, another accident at the Nissan dealership. Loud. You guys just stay home and behave,” one person said. wrote on Facebook.
