‘No Hindu refugee will lose citizenship’: West Bengal’s Amit Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah No “Hindu” refugee will lose his citizenship in West Bengal, he said on Monday while criticizing the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The state is set to go to polls this year and infiltration remains one of the key political flashpoints, setting the stage for a tight contest between the BJP and the TMC.“They are against CAA. If Mamata Banerjee If there had been no opposition to the CAA, every Bangladeshi refugee would have been given citizenship. But let me tell all the Hindu refugees, you don’t have to worry. The BJP government is at your service. No Hindu refugee will lose his citizenship,” Shah said while addressing a rally at the ‘Parivartan Yatra Sabha’ in Mathurapur. He highlighted the issue of Babri Masjid and called out Mamata’s move to demolish the mosque Humayun KabirThere was a promise to build mosques in the state, which was a “conspiracy”.“Mamata Didi, in your Bengal, Babri Masjid is being rebuilt. Whose responsibility is this? Should Babri Masjid be rebuilt? Humayun Kabir and Mamata are the same. Mamata Banerjee conspired to expel Humayun Kabir from the party and build Babri Masjid so that Hindus will not be angry,” Shah said.He accused the TMC government of engaging in “appeasement politics” by promising to build temples. “They filled Bengal with infiltrators because they saw their vote bank. Didi did nothing but appeasement. Now they are thinking of building a temple. Mamata Didi, we built the Rama temple. We built the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and the Mahakal Corridor. You did nothing then. Now, you want to build the temple. The people of Bangladesh will not be deceived by you. But I welcome the construction of a temple, whatever the purpose behind it,” he said.Parivartan Yatra is a massive outreach campaign across the state ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The campaign is expected to span 5,000 kilometers and include 63 major public meetings and 282 smaller events, culminating in a major rally at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the event.
