New Delhi: Congress leaders Malikajun Hager The Congress-led opposition alliance is ready to form the next government in Assam and is expected to get around 72-73 seats in the 126-member Assembly, it said on Tuesday.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Haq launched a sharp attack on the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarmacalled him the “most corrupt” in the country and urged Mohan Bhagwat to respond to the accusations. “The Congress-led alliance will form the next government in Assam. We will win 72-73 seats,” Haq said.Haq further targeted Salma, accusing him of widespread corruption under his leadership. “No Prime Minister of India has been as selfish and arrogant as him. Himanta Biswa Sarma works only for the development of the family. He ran syndicates in everything – tea, schools, coal, eggs, land, betel nut,” Hag claimed.He also alleged that members of the Assam cabinet are involved in corruption and own huge assets.Calling for accountability, Haq said: “I seek comments from Mohan Bhagwat on the corruption allegations against the Assam CM. I seek reaction from the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.”In response to Congress leader Pawan Khera’s accusation that Salma’s wife allegedly held multiple foreign passports and overseas assets, Haq said the investigative agency should look into the matter. “They have filed an FIR against Khera. Let them look into the matter. We will face the case as it progresses,” he added.Haq also took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that he had “no right” to criticize Rahul Gandhi or the Gandhi family because of the sacrifices they have made for the country.Responding to accusations of appeasement of minorities in Congress, Haq said, “Those who are stupid are calling Congress pro-Muslim and pro-Pakistan.”
