“Attention for areas south of Watertown. The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a *tornado warning…southern central Jefferson County in central New York…northern central Oswego County in central New York…* until 545 PM ET. *At 507 PM EST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado developed near Sandy Island Beach State Park, moving northeast at 30 mph,” News Channel Chief Meteorologist Bill Kardas wrote. 2.
“Flying debris will be dangerous for those without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Roofs, windows and vehicles will be damaged. Trees may be damaged. *Affected locations include… Sandy Island Beach State Park, Pulaski, Adams, Selkirk Shores State Park, Sandy Creek, Lacona, Mannsville, Ellisburg, Montario Point and Port Ontario. This includes Interstate 81 between exits 37 and 41,” he added.
“Take shelter now! Move to a basement or an indoor room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home or vehicle, move to the nearest sturdy shelter and protect yourself from flying debris,” the weather expert further said. He also shared a map of areas that may be hit.
“This will go north of Rome and Utica,” he added. The National Weather Service warned of severe thunderstorms. “A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Syracuse, NY, Fairmont, NY, and Baldwinsville, NY until 5:45 p.m. ET,” NWS wrote on X.
Meanwhile, shared visuals show dark cloud Formed over Syracuse.
“Beautiful thunderstorm warning line moving into the Syracuse, NY area,” one person wrote.
Another added, “Durhamville looks northeast.”
Another person shared a video where thunder could be heard rumbling.
“It’s great to hear the thunder from this storm rolling through State College,” they wrote. A local news channel also shared a time-lapse of clouds above Syracuse during a severe thunderstorm warning issued by the National Weather Service.
Some people reacted to the news of a tornado warning in New York State. “I don’t know why I love bad weather so much…I love parking my truck out west and watching the lightning dance across the sky and the tornadoes…” one wrote. Another added: “Tornado warning in effect for Brewerton.”
