A 21-year-old man will be charged with murder in a shocking Brooklyn shooting that killed a 7-month-old baby girl, and police revealed the victim’s infant brother was also hit by the same bullet, the New York Post reported.Amuri Green faces murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the death of Kaori Patterson Moore, according to the NYPDThe incident occurred in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Wednesday afternoon when the baby’s mother, Lianna Charles-Moore, took her two children for a walk in a double stroller.Gunshots rang out near the crowded street corner, prompting her to run into a nearby store for safety. Moments later, she realized her infant daughter had been shot in the head.The baby was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The bullet that killed the baby also grazed her two-year-old brother, causing injuries to his back, police sources said.The child survived and was treated at the hospital.
Jessica S. Tisch said the suspect who was wounded in the leg after the shooting was identified upon arrival at the hospital.Authorities believe the defendant was riding a moped and fired into the crowd. The vehicle then crashed into a car two blocks away.The shooting is believed to be gang-related, but the baby was not the intended target, police added.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the incident a “devastating reminder” that gun violence must be addressed.“We cannot accept this as normal,” he said, adding that the city must not be insensitive to such tragedies.
Green, who has no previous criminal record, is in custody as he is under investigation for a recent robbery.Officials said he will be formally arrested and charged.Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway for a second suspect suspected of driving a moped.
The baby’s mother recalled the moment she realized what was happening, saying she initially thought the sounds were fireworks.“I was holding my son…and then I looked and there my daughter was…and she was bleeding,” she said.The baby had only recently learned to say “mama,” family members said, underscoring the tragedy of the baby’s life ending.
