Neil Sedaka, the legendary singer-songwriter behind many hit songs, has died. He is 86 years old. In a statement to TMZ, Sedaka’s family called him a “true rock legend” and an “inspiration to millions.” The official cause of death has not yet been announced.
“Our family is devastated by the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Neil Sedaka,” the iconic singer’s family said. “He was a true rock legend who inspired millions, but most of all, at least to those of us who were lucky enough to know him, he was an incredible human being who will be deeply missed.”
Some fans left comments on his last video to pay their respects. In a video posted on social media a few days ago, Sedaka can be seen performing “Good Times, Good Music and Good Friends.”
“Good times, good music, good friends” – this has always been my philosophy! The song is included on the Steppin’ Out album, which was released on April 10th. I can’t wait to share it with you all again,” he wrote in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“My parents played his albums endlessly in the 1970s. I can close my eyes now and hear all of his hits. #RIP this often underrated musical genius,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Sad entertainment news: The music world has lost a talented songwriter and artist. RIP Neil Sedaka,” another added.
“🎶 Breaking up is hard. RIP Neil Sedaka – so many great songs and great performances from a very happy time. Condolences to all who knew and loved him,” a third person tweeted.
