New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the Center will revise the chapter on the judiciary in the controversial NCERT textbook under the supervision of a committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Indu Malhotra. The minister said the move follows the Supreme Court’s guidance, adding that the move is aimed at ensuring transparency and balance in school education.Pradhan did not comment in detail on the recent controversy involving UGC regulations aimed at maintaining standards, quality and equity in higher education in India, noting that the matter was pending. “The government’s responsibility is to ensure that no one faces injustice or discrimination. We will comply with any directions issued by the court,” he said.Outlining the ministry’s broader priorities, Pradhan said the education system currently serves approximately 300 million students, placing a significant responsibility on policymakers. He emphasized expanding access to quality resources, including technology-driven learning, improved infrastructure and a stronger research ecosystem.Highlighting recent trends, the minister said India’s presence in global university rankings has increased dramatically over the past decade, with the number of institutions in the QS rankings increasing from 54 before 2014 to around 290 currently. He attributes the growth to continued policy focus on higher education reform.Pradhan also highlighted the role of emerging technologies, stating that artificial intelligence will be integrated into learning systems as a discipline and a tool. “Students must be prepared to meet the challenges of the future through modern technology,” the minister said.
