Nasha Mukt J&K: LG launches drive to cut off supplies from Pakistan, swiftly punishes hawkers

Jammu: J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’, a 100-day campaign to eradicate the drug menace from the Union Territory by restricting the supply of contraband in Pakistan and ensuring exemplary punishment to drug traffickers.“The government is committed to effectively address this social evil and protect the youth across UT,” Sinha said before launching the campaign with a foot march from the Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu.“Our neighbor (Pakistan) is using cross-border smuggling to poison our communities and undermine our country’s future. Every official has an obligation: this must stop. The full force of the law is now directed against smugglers. Their networks will be dismantled immediately,” he said.“As per the new SOPs, passports, driving licenses, Aadhaar numbers and arms licenses of drug traffickers will be revoked. Their assets will be seized and bank accounts frozen. Lookout notices will be issued to drug traffickers. Punishment will be swift. The crackdown will be passed down from generation to generation,” the district administration said.Sinha said the next three months will be critical, with the campaign moving forward in six clear phases: intensive awareness drive, youth-focused activities, community engagement, rigorous enforcement, rehabilitation and evaluation.
