Nancy Guthrie Update: Why FBI Hostage Rescue Team is in Tucson on kidnapping case; experts provide critical update

Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Feb. 1 and authorities believe she was abducted from her home the night before. The FBI today released footage and photos showing potential subjects. A manhunt has also been launched and has spread to the border with New Mexico, according to police scanners.

While authorities have not yet released the names of suspects or persons of interest, FBI and other law enforcement officials reportedly surrounded daughter Anne Guthrie’s neighborhood. Anne had dinner with her mother the night she disappeared. Her husband, Tommaso Cioni, then dropped Guthrie off at her home, which was reportedly nearby. This reportedly makes him possibly the last person to see her before she was taken away.

Amid major developments in Guthrie’s case, one expert weighs in on why HRT was called to Tucson. Retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer shares her thoughts on X.

Hinting at impending action in the case, the expert added, “I can tell you, as an augmented team operator, I’ve worked with HRT on many operations, and it’s not like these guys have no role.”

She also expressed hope that Guthrie was still alive. HRT and SWAT often handle sensitive hostage situations. “Oh my gosh! Is it possible that, as Savannah Guthrie said in her final plea, she is still alive and they are tracking the kidnapper and Nancy’s location?” Coffendaver added.

All eyes are on investigators’ progress as they warn that time is of the essence given that Guthrie needs to take daily medication. The woman reportedly suffered from heart problems, high blood pressure and used a pacemaker.
