former fbi agent Jennifer CoffendaverA man who has been outspoken about the Nancy Guthrie case offered four possible explanations for what happened to Savannah Guthrie’s mother. In the X post, Coffendaver suggested that Nancy might be dead.
“The evidence suggests that the kidnapping-for-ransom plot has gone south,” Coffendaver wrote. “But who might have been behind the plot that led to the death of 84-year-old Nancy? If we examine similar historical cases, here are the possible propositions (in no particular order).”
The first theory, says Coffindafer, is that “wrench attack“. “A sophisticated criminal syndicate investigated the wealth of Nancy and her daughter Savannah. With numerous photos of Nancy, her home, and even her bedroom, Nancy could have been an easy kidnapping target. Savannah and Annie’s close relationship with Nancy made it possible for them to think about getting paid. The problem is that Nancy died at the hands of Porch Guy. The kidnappers issued 2 ransom demands after Nancy’s death hoping to be paid (in many other cases the ransom was paid without proof of life (photo) (e.g. Anne Herring kidnapping case). A spanner plot involving a demand for encryption keys to unlock accounts. From 2023 to 2025, over 2 billion cryptocurrencies have been paid as ransom. This is big business. (e.g. Augustin B. pseudonym case),” she wrote.

The next theory is that a family member was involved, Coffendaver said.
“A family member orchestrated her murder, disguising it as a kidnapping for money/not wanting her around. Her immediate family has been exonerated, but could other relatives have orchestrated this? I’m not barking up the tree, but presenting it like so many people believe. (like the Hazel Abell case),” she wrote.
Coffindaffer writes of a third theory, “a handyman/family friend who orchestrated the kidnapping in an organized and methodical manner. Remember the case of Heddy Braun? The ransom demand wasn’t made until 2 days later (1 day in Nancy’s case). The demand was for $3 million. ($6 million in Nancy’s case). Braun miraculously survived the kidnapping and was alive around 4 The queen was rescued. She was found shackled in subzero temperatures.”

The fourth theory proposed by Coffindafer is that “revenge plot“.
“Someone angry at Nancy/Guthrie family members committed this crime to cause absolute pain to the family. This means that Nancy was kidnapped and tortured with absolutely no regard for her life. They wanted to deprive the family of their money (hence the ransom demand), inflict severe mental anguish, and cause their reputation to be damaged by making the demand publicly, knowing that the ransom demand would not be paid, from And brought widespread public scrutiny (which was already happening). They also set up the idea that Tommaso and Anne had chosen to kidnap her after a family dinner, the last time Tommaso saw her, in the hope that the public would jump on them and blame them for someone who was completely obsessed with torturing the Guthrie family, someone who risked everything to murder their matriarch – just like in the Anne Herring case,” she wrote.
Months after Nancy’s disappearance, no suspects have been identified. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos According to reports, when providing DNA analysis of the case, relevant information Whose blood was found? The missing woman’s fortune could soon be revealed. Nanos told PEOPLE that forensic departments, particularly those doing DNA analysis, are getting closer to determining whose blood was found.
“I know we have unknown DNA and don’t know who the contributors or depositors were, but I think they’re getting closer to finding out who it was,” he said.
Nanos also pushed back against suggestions that Guthrie’s case has become a “cold case.” He said the matter only became a cold case after the lab told them they couldn’t identify the blood evidence.
