Middletown shooting update: Shelter-in-place ordered in parts of Connecticut; first-hand details on suspect

“The Middletown Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the city. At this time, investigators believe this was an isolated incident and that the parties involved were known to each other. No injuries have been reported at this time,” the latest on Facebook read.

They added that the suspect was walking and is believed to be in the area. Authorities noted that shelter-in-place orders were issued for East Street, Westlake Drive, Smith Street, Country Club Road and Atkins Street out of an “abundance of caution.”

The statement further said: “Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay indoors, lock their doors and windows, and call 911 immediately to report any suspicious activity. The Middletown Police Department, Cromwell Police Department, and CSP are still actively searching the area and will provide more updates as information is obtained. Please avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to investigate safely.” Subsequently, many local media also reported news of the shooting.

News of the shooting in Middletown sparked concern for many. on page X famous “Police issue lockdown order as they search for armed suspect in Middletown.” Other additional “Authorities in Middletown, Connecticut, are responding to reports of shots fired Tuesday, which prompted a heavy law enforcement presence and widespread public concern.”

One page claims the incident occurred at the Middletown Ridge Apartments complex. “Police activity, reports of multiple shots fired. Middletown Ridge Apartment Complex. West Lake Avenue is closed in the area and residents are asked to shelter in place. EMS is being responded to the Westfield Fire Station on East Street,” they wrote. The official Connecticut State Government page also famous “Middletown, Shelter in Place, Middletown Police are asking residents to shelter in place until further notice due to police activity.”

Many people reacted to news of the shooting. One person wrote: “Saw a Cromwell police officer with a gun standing on the bridge looking down at the bike lane on West Lake Street East.” Another added: “I heard four shots fired around 4:40pm, heavy police presence.”

Connecticut is reportedly one of the states with the strictest gun control measures in the United States. The state requires a license and universal background checks for all gun purchases. It also has a strict assault weapons ban.
