New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to make a statement in the Lok Sabha on Monday on the evolving “situation in West Asia” amid rising regional tensions and growing security concerns related to the ongoing conflict in the Gulf.Jaishankar will brief the House about developments in the region and India’s stance, including the government’s diplomatic outreach and the security of Indian nationals living and working in the West Asian country.
The statement comes as tensions in West Asia have intensified in recent weeks amid exchanges of missiles and drones in the Gulf, raising concerns about escalating tensions globally and their potential impact on energy markets, regional stability and expatriate populations.India has been paying close attention to developments.Jaishankar recently said New Delhi was in “very close contact” with governments in the region while prioritizing the safety of Indian citizens. He noted that the government is carefully assessing developments and is prepared to take necessary measures if the security situation worsens.The MEA remains in touch with Indian missions in West Asia to track the situation on the ground and provide assistance as and when required.Jaishankar had also previously highlighted India’s broader diplomatic stance on the crisis.Addressing the escalation in tensions, he reiterated the need for restraint and dialogue, warning that further escalation could destabilize an already fragile region.
