Matt Brown dies: Alaskan Bush People star appeared ‘nude’ in chilling YouTube livestream before death

Bell, who had expressed concern earlier in the week about the possibility that Matt might have committed suicide, confirmed Saturday night that authorities had identified the body found in the Okanogan River as that of his brother.

Matt gained recognition with viewers on “Alaska Bush People,” appearing in 79 episodes between 2014 and 2019. The Discovery Channel series chronicled the Brown family’s off-grid life in the wilderness and ran for 14 seasons, ending in 2022.

Bell noted that their brother, Noah Brown, was at the scene and assisted authorities in recovering and identifying Matt’s body.

“Noah helped them pull the body out of the water, Noah confirmed [Matt],” Bell said.

Bell mentioned that he suspected his brother’s death might have been his own fault. However, the official cause of death is still pending until the coroner completes his examination.

“I never thought Matt was going to hurt himself. It definitely looked like he was doing it on his own,” Bell said.

The caller then heard a noise and noticed the man lying face down in the water before being swept away by the current, according to authorities.

Search and rescue teams were dispatched; however, dangerous river conditions initially forced rescuers to halt operations until Brown’s body was eventually recovered.

Authorities said a firearm was found near where the man was last seen. Officials have not publicly confirmed whether the weapon was involved in Brown’s death.
