Mass casualty event declared in Kankakee after tornado? Aroma Park vandalized, Sheriff debunks rumors

Some unconfirmed reports, citing local scanners, claimed authorities had declared a “mass casualty incident” and reported a death toll.

“The National Weather Service said that while the chance of additional tornadoes has decreased, rotation is possible due to the structure of the storm. “Sheriffs and other first responders are continuing to inspect injuries and assess damage. At this time, no injuries have been reported.”

Residents were urged to limit travel due to downed trees, debris and power lines. The office also noted that emergency hotlines were overwhelmed.

“Our 911 Center (KanComm) is overwhelmed with emergency calls. Please refrain from calling 911 for non-emergency related inquiries to free up the phones for those in need during an actual emergency.”
