A violent tornado ripped through Aroma Park and south Kankakee, Illinois, on Tuesday, causing widespread damage. Videos and social media reports showed extensive damage to many homes and buildings.
Some unconfirmed reports, citing local scanners, claimed authorities had declared a “mass casualty incident” and reported a death toll.
The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office clarified in a Facebook post that the reports were false. “We are aware of some rumors circulating on social media that tonight’s incident resulted in multiple deaths at KCC (Kankakee Community College).” tornado. Authorities confirmed that the likelihood of another tornado has decreased, but caution is still required.
“The National Weather Service said that while the chance of additional tornadoes has decreased, rotation is possible due to the structure of the storm. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed a tornado touched down south of Kankakee near the Kankakee Fairgrounds and moved in a northeasterly direction Aroma Parksevere damage was reported.

Residents were urged to limit travel due to downed trees, debris and power lines. The office also noted that emergency hotlines were overwhelmed.
