Mara Flavia Araujo: 5 things to know about the Brazilian triathlete who died during a triathlon in Texas

A 38-year-old athlete from Brazil Died while participating in an event Texas IRONMAN triathlon. She reportedly drowned during a 2.5-mile swim through the open water of Lake Woodland.

Authorities did not release the identity of the athlete. Ironman Texas said in a social media update that a competitor died during Saturday’s race. Araujo’s sister, Melissa Araujo, confirmed that Araujo died during the triathlon.

Mara Flavia Araujo has been a triathlete for over ten years and regularly competes in IRONMAN and 70.3 distance events. Records show her last major publicly recorded performance was the 2020 Ironman 70.3 Campeche race in Mexico.

2. Journalists who have worked in television and radio for many years

According to Brazilian news outlet G1, Mara Flavia Arajuo worked as a journalist for several years before becoming a full-time triathlete. According to her LinkedIn profile, she has worked in radio, television, public sector communications, press relations and social media management for more than a decade.

3. Popular influencers with thousands of followers

She is also known for being a popular fitness influencer with a huge following on TikTok and Instagram. She had nearly 60,000 followers on her Instagram profile, which is still active despite her death.

4. The cause of death is under investigation.

Mara Flavia Araujo’s official cause of death has not yet been announced. However, it was revealed that the 38-year-old suffered flu-like symptoms before the event but decided to compete anyway.
