Mar-a-Lago shooting: What happened at Trump’s Palm Beach club? The first details come out

A man in his early 20s was shot and killed by U.S. Secret Service agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly tried to break into the perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, a private club owned by President Donald Trump.

The incident happened in West Palm Beach around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the Secret Service. Authorities said the man was found near the north gate. Mar-a-Lago The property appeared to be carrying a shotgun and a fuel can.

The man entered a secure area and was met by federal agents and a deputy sheriff, the Secret Service said in a statement.

“Law enforcement officers fired their weapons during the confrontation,” the agency said. “The individual, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, has been pronounced deceased.”

No Secret Service agents or deputy sheriffs were injured in the incident, and “no agent Protected officers were on scene at the time of the incident,” officials said.

The FBI, along with the Secret Service and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the man’s background, actions, possible motives and use of force.

“In accordance with agency policy, the Secret Service agent involved will be placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” the Secret Service added.

According to Fox10, the briefing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Sunday.
