Lewiston Police, maine Bates College said it is responding to an “evolving” situation after Bates College issued an alert Thursday afternoon regarding potentially “armed individuals” and shelters near campus.
NBC 10 Boston reported that police were responding to nearby schools and hospitals around Lewiston’s College Street and between Sabattus Street and Russell Street. Bates also confirm block in a Facebook post.
The Lewiston Police Department (LPD) was dispatched to the area of Central Avenue and Campus Avenue in response to an emergency alert issued at approximately 3:41 p.m. local time. The college immediately issued a shelter-in-place order.
Subsequent updates described the person as a man in his 30s wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and black pants. LPD has not confirmed whether shots were fired.
