Laura Loomer loses defamation case against Bill Maher: Did Donald Trump’s comments lead to the brawl? watch video

A federal judge ruled that the “Real Time” host’s joke constituted protected speech, not libel, and was thrown out Loomersituation. Loomer claimed that Maher’s jokes lowered her standing in Trump’s orbit and even cost her a job. Meanwhile, U.S. District Judge James Moody Jr. ruled that any “reasonable” viewer “would have understood” that Maher was joking rather than stating a fact.

After the sentencing, old statements by Maher resurfaced online. He passed comments about Loomer and Trump as early as September 13, 2024. Here’s what Bill Maher said about Laura Loomer.

“Not anyone,” Maher remarked. “He’s been a dog for too long, this is not Melania,” the host can be heard saying in the video to laughter from the audience. “I think we have an answer, and I think it might be Laura Loomer,” Maher further said.

A longer clip emerged of Maher claiming Loomer was in an “arranged relationship” to “influence the election.”

Maher went on to make other remarks about Loomer. Commenting on her “closeness” to Trump. “She’s 31 and looks like his type,” Maher continued.

“Judge Moody’s ruling today in favor of Bill Maher, after initially denying his motion to dismiss my defamation lawsuit, was wrong both factually and legally. Maher and HBO’s article calling me ‘fucked the president’ for simply flying to a presidential debate and expressing my admiration for President Trump and his MAGA agenda is itself defamatory of me,” she wrote.

Loomer added, “The same judge previously denied Maher and HBO’s motion to dismiss on this basis. The judge’s new premise is outrageous, taken from a media article, I said I love the president because he is a great president, I hugged him, and flew with him and his staff on President Trump’s plane to 2024 in both a professional capacity and as a reporter 2020 Presidential Debate. For these reasons, the judge stated that Maher could have made a so-called “joke” that was not a joke, and even if it was, it would be subject to legal action and result in continued defamation, threats, and misogynistic and unwanted sexual comments against me. It is also disrespectful and defamatory to President Trump and @FLOTUS, both of whom I have the utmost respect for.”

“It is unacceptable for any judge to accuse a woman of having sex with a man and treating it as a ‘joke’ simply because she claims to have a platonic love for the man’s style of politics and leadership. This ruling is completely dishonest and misogynistic. I am a professional woman who only attended the presidential debates as a guest, and everyone knows that Bill Maher is a staunch supporter of Kamala Harris and was vehemently opposed to Trump when he made these defamatory statements.” About my comment. This is not a joke. While I have been supporting President Trump very professionally, he is trying to promote the election of Kamala Harris and discredit me. ”

“This conviction should be overturned on appeal, if necessary, to the Eleventh Circuit and the Supreme Court. This is truly an attack on women and the truth,” she concluded.
