Sringal: Ladakh Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Saturday lifted the rule barring government employees holding lower qualification posts from applying for postgraduate posts in central territories.Previously, candidates selected for government posts with lower qualifications were required to submit an affidavit declaring that they had obtained only a Class 10 or 12 pass. Therefore, such candidates will not be eligible for future recruitment for many graduate-level positions.Calling the blockade “unreasonable” and “restrictive”, Saxena said the imposition of limits on top qualifications effectively prevented candidates from future employment and was “contrary to the fundamental right to seek adequate employment”.This decision will benefit thousands of young people working in positions such as orderlies and multi-tasking staff (MTS). Restrictive regulations also prevent many young people from applying for such lower-qualification positions out of fear of limiting future career advancement.“The government has a responsibility to ensure equal opportunities for all segments of society, regardless of their level of education,” LG said.Earlier on Thursday, Saxena deregulated the hospitality industry, freeing it from outdated rules and bureaucratic interference to improve ease of doing business in the cold desert region.
