Joe Abraham: “Enough”

In a March 22 post, Abraham’s father expressed his condolences to the Gorman family, calling the latest incident “preventable violence.” “No one should have to endure this. Another young life lost to preventable violence in Illinois. How many more?” he wrote.

Katie Abraham and Chloe Polzin were killed in a hit-and-run on Jan. 19 while visiting the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Three other people in the car were injured.

As in Gorman’s case, an illegal immigrant was driving the car that struck Abraham and Bolzin.

Julio Cucu-Pol was deported in 2016, according to Abraham’s parents, but it’s unclear when he returned to the United States. According to federal court records, Cucul-Bol provided false documents to Chase Bank in November 2023.

The Abraham family has been outspoken about their daughter’s death, blaming Illinois Democrats for their sanctuary policies while arguing the state needs stricter screening procedures.

Abraham’s father further urged state leadership to take responsibility in a recent X post. “Leaders will speak out and then delete the story for political expediency. Demand accountability. Enough is enough.”

Abraham’s father said in a statement last year: “Katie was murdered by someone who may have actually been vetted but who was not in this country and she will be with us today.”

“Where are you [JB Pritzker] Sympathy for my daughter? “

In another post, Abraham’s father said his daughter was “just living her life and it was all taken away.”

In the post, he also criticized the governor’s office for its lack of response despite being contacted privately.

“Where is your compassion for my daughter?” he wrote, urging Pritzker to publicly acknowledge her death and “stand where she died.”

He called on Pritzker to express condolences to Minnesota ICE agent victims Alex Pretti and Renee Good “in the wake of yet another tragedy in Chicago,” while noting Gormanof fatal shootings.

“Your public displays of compassion elsewhere while remaining silent about the victims in your state feel out of step with the reality families like mine live with every day,” he wrote.

The grieving parent further tied his criticism to the broader policy debate, accusing state leadership of defending policies he said would help prevent violence.

“This is not about politics. This is about leadership and responsibility,” he wrote.

Abraham’s father confronted Pritzker directly: “Where is your acknowledgment of the victims in Illinois? When will you take responsibility for the consequences of the policies you defend?”
