NOIDA: The second international airport in the National Capital Region of Delhi will be officially inaugurated on Saturday, adding Jewar to the country’s aviation map and creating the space and means for the national capital, already India’s largest aviation hub, to play a bigger role in connecting with the world. Flight operations from NIA are likely to begin in May.The Prime Minister plans to arrive at the airport at 11.30am on Saturday, tour the terminal and officially open the airport around noon before addressing a public rally. The event is expected to attract large crowds from Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr and other parts of western Uttar Pradesh. Three panda parks have been set up with a capacity of over 100,000 people.NIA will add capacity for 1.2 billion passengers per annum to Delhi NC Airport infrastructure, giving airlines more room to expand and providing more choice to passengers.Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who will accompany the Prime Minister on Saturday, posted on X that the NIA will help the state become a globally connected hub. He said: “This airport will open a new door for the country’s economic development and will also inject new impetus into the country’s development and prosperity.” Last week, the Prime Minister reviewed the preparations for the airport’s inauguration ceremony.
