Jal Mahotsav launched at Gosainganj, Lucknow, covering 22,000 villages in UP

LUCKNOW: The State Drinking Water and Sanitation Mission (SWSM) on Sunday launched the 15-day Jal Mahotsav program to hand over responsibility of water supply to gram panchayat in villages that have achieved 100 per cent piped water coverage under the Jal Jeevan Mission.The campaign will last until March 22 and will be carried out in more than 22,000 villages across the country uttar pradesh. One of the events was held at Hussainabad Doolahpur gram panchayat in Gosainganj area of ​​Lucknow.Mohanlalganj MLA Amresh Kumar kicked off the event by handing Jal Kalash to gram pradhan Harinaam. According to officials, piped water is currently being supplied to 760 households in Hussainabad Doolahpur Gram Panchayat.Addressing the rally, Kumar said the state government was working to ensure that tap water reaches every household and urged villagers to conserve water. “The government has provided tap water to every household. Now, it is your responsibility to protect tap water. Not a drop of water should be wasted, and it is the responsibility of every resident to ensure that everyone in need has water,” he said. During the visit, the MLA also inspected the household water connections.Dr. Rajshekhar, general manager of the Rural Water Supply Department, said that about 11 kilometers of pipelines have been laid in the village to provide tap water to every household. “Similar projects are being organized in many villages across the state,” he said, adding that before the Jal Jeevan mission, there were about 25,000 tap connections in rural Lucknow, which has now increased to 2.25 lakh.During the event, 42 gram Pradhans from Lucknow, Sitapur, Hardoi, Hamirpur and Bareilly districts were honored for their work in Jal Jeevan Mission. The executive agency will also manage operations, maintenance and water quality monitoring for the next 10 years, officials said.
