‘It will be done properly’: Trump rules out early exit from Iran war after ‘terminating’ claims

U.S. President Donald Trump has made clear that Washington will not give up prematurely on the ongoing conflict with Iran even as negotiations remain deadlocked and global tensions continue to simmer.

Speaking at an event in Florida, he said the United States was determined to address the issue. “We’re going to handle this properly. We’re not going to leave early and then three years later problems arise,” he said.

Trump further stated that the United States currently has the upper hand. He said Americans “just won,” adding, “If this was a fight, they would stop. If this was a fight, they would stop. You know that saying? It’s true.” track Real-time updates on the US-Iraq war.

Meanwhile, the president pointed to the lack of progress on a peace deal with Tehran, saying: “They’re not making the deal we have to make.”

Trump expresses dissatisfaction

Trump earlier stressed in an interview with reporters that negotiations with Iran were not progressing as the United States had hoped.

“They want to make a deal, but I’m not happy with it,” he said, adding, “We just had a conversation with Iran. Let’s see what happens. But I would say I’m not happy with it.”

While acknowledging some progress, Trump said: “They’ve made progress, but I’m not sure they’re going to get there,” adding without elaborating on who was participating in the latest round of talks or when they would take place.

according to Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic News Agency, Tehran has reportedly made a new proposal to Washington through Pakistan, which brokered the last round of direct talks last month.

The content of the proposal is unclear, however, a report wall street journal said his proposals include discussing the conditions for reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz while continuing to demand that the United States cease attacks and lift the blockade.

It was unclear whether Trump’s comments were a direct response to the proposal.

Trump administration claims war is ‘over’

even as Donald Trump While the United States insists it will not withdraw prematurely from the Iran conflict, his administration said a day earlier that the war was effectively “over” due to the ongoing ceasefire, although there were no changes to the U.S. military posture.

The move was seen as an attempt to circumvent the War Powers Resolution, which requires Congress to approve military action within 60 days.

The resolution’s May 1 deadline will now pass without action after the Senate rejected a Democratic bid to halt the war for the sixth time.

The war, launched by the United States and Israel in a surprise attack on February 28, has been largely on hold since a ceasefire on April 8, and although only one round of direct negotiations was held, it also ended in failure.

Iran continues to maintain control of the Strait of Hormuz, restricting key global supplies of oil, natural gas and fertilizer. In response, the United States imposed a counter-blockade on Iranian ports.

While the ceasefire between the United States and Iran holds, violence continues elsewhere in the region.

On the Lebanese front, Israel has continued to launch attacks despite a separate ceasefire with Iran-backed Hezbollah in mid-April.

Lebanon’s health ministry said at least 13 people were killed in the attack in the southern region, including Habboush, where an evacuation warning had been issued shortly before the attack.
