According to Rolling Out, the two airports experienced a total of 62 delays and 29 cancellations. Cancun was hardest hit, with 40 flights delayed and 23 canceled, while Mexico City reported 22 flight delays and six cancellations.
The disruption occurred during one of the busiest travel times of the year, creating a ripple effect international touristsbusiness travelers and domestic commuters.
Several airlines operating domestic and international routes were affected. Rolling Out reported that Aeromexico experienced three flight cancellations and 10 delays. American Airlines had one flight cancellation and two delays, while Volaris had six delays. Avianca and Delta Air Lines also reported flight delays.

Passengers at both airports reported long lines, long waits and confusion as airlines work to restructure flight schedules.
For traffic-strapped travelers, a delay of a few hours can result in missed trips, lost hotel reservations and unexpected expenses.
Cancun welcomed more than 29 million visitors last year and is an important gateway connecting North America and Europe to Mexico’s Caribbean coast. Even minor disruptions can spread quickly through airline rotation schedules and crew assignments.
Aviation authorities and travel reports cited several contributing factors, including a surge in passenger traffic, operational pressures on airlines, crew availability and weather-related disruptions.

As Travel World points out, when delays accumulate, the burden of rerouting planes and assisting passengers falls primarily on airlines and airport operations teams.
Travelers traveling to either airport are advised to check their flight status via the official airport portal or airline app before proceeding to the terminal. Mexican passenger rights regulations generally give passengers the right to rebook or cancel a flight for a refund, and encourage passengers to discuss their options directly with airline representatives.
While the airport remains open, ongoing disruption means travelers should prepare for delays and allow extra time once operations stabilize.
