IPL 2026: Will Rohit Sharma play against CSK in Wankhede today?

Mumbai Indians will face Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on April 23, 2026, but there is uncertainty over Rohit Sharma’s availability as he recovers from a hamstring injury.A decision on Rohit’s participation in the tournament will be taken before the match and the team management will keep a close eye on his fitness ahead of the high-profile clash. There are encouraging signs from the Mumbai Indians camp. Rohit was seen hitting the ball in the nets during a controlled training session on Wednesday. However, ESPNcricinfo said he faced falls for most of his 25 minutes and avoided big shots, suggesting he is taking a cautious approach during his recovery. The injury, which he picked up earlier this month (April 12), has ruled him out of MI’s last two games against Kings XI Punjab and Gujarat Titans. If Rohit is deemed fit to bat but not fit to field, MI could use him as an impact player to manage his workload. This would allow the team to capitalize on his hitting power without risking further strain on his hamstring. If Rohit is out, Denmark Malevar is likely to continue to start alongside Quinton de Kock, taking his place in his absence.

Key figures against CSK

Rohit Sharma is the all-time leading run-scorer between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings with 913 runs in 31 games. He dominates the field significantly today, having crossed 500 runs in the IPL against CSK at the Wankhede Stadium alone.Mumbai Indians (MI) currently leads Chennai Super Kings (CSK) 21-18 in 39 encounters in IPL as of April 2026. If you include games in the defunct Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20), the record is 22 wins and 19 losses in 41 games. These teams have met in the IPL finals a record four times (2010, 2013, 2015 and 2019). MI have won three of these four championship clashes (2013, 2015 and 2019). Despite MI’s historical lead, CSK have been more successful of late, winning five of their last six games between 2022 and early 2025. MI won their last match on April 20, 2025 by 9 wickets.
