New Delhi: UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lamy praises former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Hailed as “India’s great son”, he also highlighted his Indian roots during a fireside chat in New Delhi.Introducing Sunak at the British High Commission, Lamy said: “I know that former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was not only a great son of Britain, but also a great son of India.“

Sunak immediately interjected: “Son-in-law”, prompting laughter from the audience.Rami also spoke about his own Indian roots. “I also just wanted to build on my heritage because my great-grandmother on my mother’s side was from Calcutta,” he said.Lamy stressed that despite the UK’s political differences, they were capable of working together. “Although we are on different sides of the political aisle, we can work together and have been friends for many years.”He added, “I was delighted to work with former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in recent years on our shared goal of doing better on prostate cancer in the UK and globally, and am pleased to work with him on cross-party issues.”Lamy’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about strengthening UK-India relations, with potential areas of cooperation including trade, technology and security, as both countries explore ways to deepen their strategic partnership.Earlier, speaking at the meeting Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit In New Delhi, Sunak called India an ideal place to shape the future of artificial intelligence and said there was “no better place” to deliberate on the global AI transformation.Sunak said: “We do need a regular forum where we can all come together to discuss this technology and that is what this summit, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, provides. This summit will have an impact; it will show us how to make artificial intelligence work, not only for developed countries but also for developing countries.”“There is no better place to discuss AI transformation than India,” Sunak said, adding that the summit would showcase how AI can improve health and education “in every corner of the globe” and enhance human dignity.
