New Delhi: Congress MP Jairam Ramesh on Saturday lashed out at US President Donald Trump and highlighted concerns over Washington’s recent diplomatic setback in support of India. Pakistan during the conflict in Afghanistan. In response to Trump’s remarks praising Pakistan’s leadership, Ramesh expressed his dissatisfaction on the X website. He wrote: “President Trump’s full support for Pakistan in its war with Afghanistan is yet another setback for India’s ‘arrogance’. He once again went out of his way to praise the man whose incendiary rhetoric provided the backdrop for the Pakistan-orchestrated Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025.”

.

Ramesh also pointed to economic concerns arising from India-US trade activities. “Our economic diplomacy with the United States has failed miserably, as evidenced by Mr. Modi’s sudden capitulation to an apparently unilateral trade deal in which India made firm commitments, particularly to import from American farmers, while the United States made vague commitments to allow India to increase exports. Not only that, days after the agreement was signed, the United States imposed a 125.87% import tariff on Indian solar modules,” he wrote. On strategic diplomacy, the Congress leader added, “Our strategic diplomacy has been hit repeatedly by President Trump, who has repeatedly courted the Pakistani establishment and returned to the hyphen between India and Pakistan. The Prime Minister may be rewarded for his tactics. But the fact is that the self-proclaimed ‘Vishwa Guru’ has been exposed and the world, especially the United States, has become aware of his tactics.”Earlier, Trump praised Pakistan Defense Forces chief Asim Munir and the prime minister Shehbaz Sharif In the ongoing conflict between Islamabad and Taliban. “Well, I will,” Trump said at a White House press conference. [intervene]but as you know, I get along very well with Pakistan. Very very good. You have a great prime minister, you have a great general, you have a great leader. I think two people that I respect a lot. I think Pakistan is doing very well. “After Trump’s remarks, US Deputy Secretary of State Alison Hook also expressed Washington’s support for Islamabad. She wrote onPakistan this week launched airstrikes on Afghan cities in the most significant military operation since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, escalating the situation. Taliban retaliation then triggered further attacks from Pakistan, with Defense Minister Khawaja Asif declaring that Pakistan was now in “open war” with Afghanistan.Although the United Kingdom and other countries have urged to de-escalate the situation, China has called for a ceasefire, and Iran has offered mediation, India has been paying close attention to developments. The government in New Delhi has repeatedly denied that the United States had any role in promoting the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, attributing progress to direct bilateral negotiations.
