Indian student on F-1 visa flashes gun in viral video, sparks row: ‘He must be deported’

A video showing an Indian student in the US using a pistol has gone viral, sparking a row among some social media users demanding his deportation. The video shows Akhilesh Chetla Ravi inside a convenience store or petrol station. In the short video, he can be seen holding a handgun and radio chatter in the background mentions “shots fired.” The video was first linked to his Snapchat account and then went viral on the social media platform. The post that shared the video claimed that Raman maintained an F-1 student visa in the United States and had been working illegally at the off-campus store shown in the video. Under U.S. visa regulations, F-1 students face strict restrictions on off-campus employment and are prohibited from engaging in unauthorized work. The viral posts also questioned the legality of his gun ownership. Some users believe the situation may involve violating immigration and firearms regulations. Some users tagged U.S. agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and State Department officials, while calling for an investigation. Some posts called for action, with some users writing “He must be deported.”Ravi is originally from India and graduated from Hood College in Maryland in May 2025 with a degree in Management Information Systems. His name appears on the official commencement program for graduate degree recipients from the college.According to his LinkedIn profile, Ravi has been working as a software developer at JPMorgan Chase since September 2025. The profile also lists his previous positions as a data engineer at Bayer and Capgemini, as well as previous work experience at BYJU’S.His Instagram account, which was previously public as @akhilesh.ch_98, was also turned private shortly after the video went viralThe incident sparked yet another debate over U.S. non-citizen immigration enforcement and gun laws, particularly for students holding F-1 visas.

Social media reaction:

  • I guess the law doesn’t allow him to work off campus.
  • Everyone who owns a gun knows that’s not how you handle a gun
  • It’s good to see that rampant fraud in India is becoming mainstream.
  • What’s the point of doing it if you know you’re going to be in big trouble?
  • Any student, especially a foreign student, who wants to engage in any activity other than books, libraries and education should be deported immediately
