Indian designs may lose subsidies, IT & Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tells electronics companies

Companies under the electronic components manufacturing scheme must integrate design, quality and engineering into India or risk losing support, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Monday, signaling a shift from scale to strategic value. The warning comes amid a raft of new approvals, underscoring the scale of the scheme. The ministry has approved 29 new projects involving investments of Rs 7,104 crore, taking the total approvals to Rs 61,671 crore, exceeding the initial target of Rs 59,350 crore.Vaishnaw pointed to gaps in the industry’s response. “The real value will only be gained if the design is done in India,” he said, adding that incentives would be linked to deeper technical capabilities.
