New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee On the law and order issue in the poll-bound state. Replying to the Lok Sabha debate on the 2026 Union Budget, Sitharaman said that under Mamata’s rule, “bombs, not laws” prevailed.“Bengali mein bob chalta hai, kanun nahi chalta (In Bengal, bombs, not laws, rule),” she said, sparking an uproar from opposition leaders. She criticized the chief minister for advising women to stay indoors at night instead of taking steps to improve the law and order situation in the state.
