New Delhi: Veteran Indian pacer Mohammad Shami made it clear retirement was not on his mind and insisted he would only step away from international cricket if he felt “bored” – and not because of age, selection snubs or injuries. The 35-year-old last played for India during their winning run ICC Champions Trophy Although he has fully recovered, he has been out of the national team for more than a year. He was absent from the tournament despite having a stellar domestic season, taking 67 wickets for Bengal.Push boundaries with our YouTube channel. But I’m not even thinking about retirement now because the thought can depress you,” he said.Shami elaborated on his philosophy, making it clear that his decision will be entirely self-driven. “If that thought crosses your mind, it means you are tired. If you are tired, it means you are bored. I have said it before – the day I wake up and feel bored, I will leave cricket.”“So, yes, the day I feel lazy or bored, I quit. But I’m not bored or lazy. I enjoy the sport. The results are good and positive,” he added, highlighting his continued desire for the sport.Focus on performance rather than choiceDespite being ignored by BCCI-led selectors Ajit AgarkarShami remains focused on what he can control – his performance. The veteran pacer moved to Lucknow Supergiants from Sunrisers Hyderabad and is now determined to make it happen. “As a bowler, I will give 100 per cent effort. I will fulfill my duties and try to live up to the expectations. Rest, I can’t change my luck,” he said.“If Lucknow trusts me, I will give my all. The main factor is satisfaction – whether the preparation I put in pays off,” Shami added.
