HIV-positive man detained for injecting blood into relative who refused marriage proposal

Hyderabad: A 24-year-old traffic executive working with an IT company has been arrested for allegedly injecting his own HIV-infected blood into a 24-year-old relative who refused to marry him due to his health condition. The man has been booked for attempted murder. The incident took place at around 5 pm on March 11 at the woman’s apartment in the IT Corridor area of Pocharam, where she was home alone. Police said the man, who was related to her, entered the apartment and as she approached him, he suddenly pulled a syringe from his pocket and plunged it into her forearm without provocation. “After pouring the contents of the syringe into her body, the accused told her that she was injected with HIV-infected blood and left the place,” said inspector B Raju. Police said the woman did not immediately tell her family about the incident. She fell ill the next day and had a high fever. Her family took her to see a doctor on the morning of March 13. During the examination, the doctor found a black blood clot mark on her forearm and asked about her condition. In the presence of her family, the woman revealed that her relatives forcibly injected her with HIV+ blood. The family reported the incident to police on Friday. “We have sent the woman to Gandhi Hospital for a medical check-up. Doctors told us that it takes up to three months for the infection to show up in blood tests,” the inspector said. Medipally ACP B Mohan Kumar said the man’s father, an autorickshaw driver, died of AIDS about 19 years ago and his mother was also HIV positive. Police said the accused was infected with the virus at birth. Officials said that both families support the two getting married before September 2025. However, before the marriage could be finalized, the woman’s family asked the man to undergo a blood test due to his parents’ medical history. “He tested positive for HIV and the woman’s family canceled their wedding plans. She also started avoiding him,” the ACP said. Police said the accused tried several times to convince the woman to marry him. “Finally, he decided that her family would not object to their wedding if she too was infected and decided to inject her with his blood,” Kumar said.
