Less than a week ago, Mamata insisted she would not resign despite the BJP’s landslide victory in the state.“I will not resign. Let them sack me,” Banerjee said, urging party workers to celebrate “Black Day” during the first session of the new Parliament. He was once one of Banerjee’s closest lieutenants and a key architect of the Nandigram movement that helped end the Left Front’s rule in 2007, before defecting to the BJP in 2020 amid growing tensions with the TMC leadership. In the 2026 assembly elections, he defeated the TMC in both Nandigram and Babanipur, while the BJP won 207 seats, ending the party’s 15-year rule in the state.
