Reps. Hank Johnson, D-GA, and Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., appeared to “doze off” during Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, according to photos and video clips widely circulated on social media.
The video, which showed the two lawmakers sitting with their eyes closed at various points during the speech, quickly went viral and sparked a wave of reactions online.
One person wrote: “Hank Johnson is asleep. It’s past his bedtime!”
Another added, “Hank, ‘Guam will capsize if we put Marines there’ Johnson is sleeping.”
A third user commented: “Haha…another democrat sleeping on the job…SOTU.”
Another person wrote: “As an elected official, the fact that you’re on TV like a high school kid sleeping in SOTU says a lot about how you feel about the people who elected you.”
