The post stated: “After a decisive vote by the Assembly of Experts, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed the third supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution…”.
In a subsequent post, Afshar showed an image that spoke out against the opposition, specifically targeting Reza Pahlavi, the eldest son of the last Shah of Iran, who lives in the United States as a dissident in exile. The political cartoon depicts a smiling Pahlavi holding American and Israeli flags as a city engulfed in flames from a missile attack behind him – images intended to portray him as colluding with foreign adversaries against Iran.
Afshar arrived in the United States on a tourist visa in 2015, was granted asylum in 2019, and received a green card in 2021. Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked her green card before her arrest in Los Angeles.
She was detained by ICE and now faces deportation because authorities accuse her of spreading propaganda in support of the Iranian regime while living in the United States, according to officials.
ICE agents also arrested her 25-year-old daughter, Sarinasadat Hosseiny, and revoked her green card after entering the country on a student visa in 2015 and obtaining permanent residency in 2023.
