Greenbelt shootings: What happened in Prince George’s County, Maryland? Police share details

The Prince George’s County Police Department responded to the “serious incident” around 3:30 p.m., which officials said involved shootings in several communities in northern Prince George’s County, including near 67th Avenue and Patterson Street, local outlet WJLA reported.

Police confirmed that two people were injured in the incident. One victim remains in critical condition, while details of the second victim’s injuries have not been released.

The incident reportedly started in Riverdale

Sources familiar with the investigation told WJLA the incident may have started in the Riverdale area, where multiple 911 callers reported a man suspected of driving around and shooting people. gun into the air.

Prince George’s County police then reportedly pursued the suspected shooter, eventually arresting him in Greenbelt.

Authorities confirmed that a person has been arrested in connection with the shooting and said there are no outstanding suspects at this time.

Police urge residents to avoid affected areas

Law enforcement officials described the situation as “active and evolving” Friday night as investigators continued to work through multiple scenarios related to the incident.

Residents of nearby communities are urged to follow police instructions and avoid the affected areas while officers investigate.

The shooting prompted a major emergency response in parts of northern Prince George’s County, with police vehicles and first responders seen across the region in the afternoon.

Authorities have not revealed whether the victims were specifically targeted or if the shooting was random.
