Government holds all-party meeting today to address concerns over crisis in West Asia

New Delhi: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi made statements on the conflict in West Asia in both houses of Parliament, the government on Wednesday convened an all-party meeting on the issue, seeking to address the views raised by different parties and show unity amid the escalating crisis.Senior government officials including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are likely to attend the first-of-its-kind meeting to discuss issues that have drawn criticism from the opposition over the government’s response.

In statements in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, Modi highlighted the challenges posed by the conflict to India, whose energy supplies are affected due to Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the large Indian diaspora in the Gulf countries.“For these reasons, India’s concerns are naturally greater. Therefore, the unanimous, unified voice of Parliament must be heard around the world,” he said.
