London, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri called his French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrow on Monday to discuss key areas of bilateral cooperation and current global challenges, including the situation in West Asia.

His visit to France comes amid rising tensions in West Asia, with the United States and Iran failing to reach a lasting peace deal to end hostilities after marathon talks in Pakistan over the weekend.

Amid a deepening global energy crisis, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz to curtail Iran’s oil supplies to China and other countries.

Misri arrived in Paris on Sunday, the first leg of his two-nation tour, where he met with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Barrow.

“The discussions covered key areas of bilateral cooperation, ongoing global challenges, including the situation in the Middle East,” the Indian Embassy in Paris posted on X.

He visited the United States before visiting France and met with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and several other senior Trump administration officials.

The Foreign Secretary will co-chair the India-France Ministry of Foreign Affairs consultations with Martin Briance, Secretary-General of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Misri and Briennes will discuss a wide range of issues including defence, civilian nuclear energy, space, cyber and digital, artificial intelligence and initiatives to promote people-to-people exchanges, as well as the latest global and regional developments.

Misri is on a three-day visit to Paris and Berlin for high-level talks on a number of areas that have become increasingly important in a fractured geopolitical landscape.

“Following French President Emmanuel Macron’s (@EmmanuelMacron) visit to India in February 2026, this visit reflects the ongoing regular high-level engagement between India and Europe,” the Indian delegation said in a post on X.
