“Foreign expectant mothers receive additional services”

An Indian-origin doctor in San Jose is under investigation for encouraging birth tourism.

Dr. Asia Javid of San Jose is under government investigation for allegedly encouraging birth tourism. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Kentucky)) and Rep. Brendan Gill (R-Texas) allege that Dr. Javid, along with three other entities, have been advertising fertility tourism on their websites. Letters requesting documents have been sent to Dr. Paraty, Birth Me Miami Miami, International Maternity Services and Dr. Aditya Javid. Dr. Atthiya Javid studied medicine in Hyderabad, India.“The benefits of U.S. citizenship are a unique privilege,” the letter said. “However, because foreign expectant mothers who travel for this purpose primarily originate from China and Russia, there are concerns that birth tourism is raising potential national security and election integrity threats posed by hostile nations that challenge U.S. interests.” The letter also adds that it is not inherently illegal for foreign tourists to give birth in the United States, but deliberately misrepresenting the intent to enter the United States on a temporary visitor visa is a form of fraud.“In January 2025, President Trump issued an executive order limiting birthright citizenship, limiting the eligibility for citizenship to children born in the United States to parents who were in the United States illegally or who were in the United States legally at birth but only temporarily, such as aliens who came to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program or on a non-immigrant visa. In July 2025, a federal court issued a preliminary injunction blocking the executive order from taking effect, and the injunction remains in effect pending a final ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court,” the letter said. The allegation against Dr Javid is that her website suggested the company was engaged in fertility tourism. “While the exact price of the maternity package is not disclosed, interested customers must contact the company directly through its online portal or by phone or email to receive personalized travel planning options, quotes, and information on additional costs, including registration fees, extended hospital stays, and medical exams and tests. In addition to prenatal and postnatal care, the company offers a wider range of services to expectant foreign mothers, including logistical support, temporary housing assistance and legal advice, either directly or through affiliated third-party providers. “
