‘Fire in right engine’: Turkish Airlines with 236 people on board makes emergency landing in Kolkata India News

New Delhi: A Turkish Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Kolkata on Wednesday after its right engine caught fire minutes after taking off from Kathmandu airport. The plane was carrying 236 people, including 11 crew members.“Turkish Airlines flight number ‘THY-727’ caught fire within four minutes of take-off and the right engine caught fire. The flight took off at 1:28 pm local time,” Tribhuvan International Airport General Manager Teknath Sitaula told ANI.The pilot alerted the Kolkata air traffic control center about a possible fire in the right engine and the aircraft landed safely at 2:49 pm with 236 passengers on board.A full state of emergency has been declared for a Turkish Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Istanbul, the director of Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport said.The Turkish Airlines A330-303 aircraft is currently parked at Kolkata Airport and the investigation is ongoing.The official said the pilot turned the plane west of Kathmandu and shut down the right engine, keeping the plane in the air for about 10 minutes. Tribhuvan International Airport was closed for about 15 minutes after the report.
