Fakhar Zaman denies arrest for ball-tampering in PSL

Appearing in front of former Sri Lankan cricketers and match referees Roshan Mahanamawho denies the accusations.The 35-year-old opener was charged with Level 3 offense by Mahanama on Sunday under Article 2.14 of the PSL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.He was found to have breached Article 41.3 of the PSL Conditions of Play, which prohibits any action that alters the condition of the ball.The charge relates to an incident that occurred before Karachi Kings’ final innings when they needed 14 runs to win. Fakhar was seen having discussions with Haris Rauf and captain Shaheen Afridi before the end of the game.Shortly thereafter, referee Faisal Afridi handed the ball into his custody for inspection. After consultation with another on-field umpire, it was determined that the condition of the ball had been altered.The match referee is expected to hold another hearing within the next 48 hours before making a ruling.The umpire awarded Lahore Qalandar a five-point penalty for changing the condition of the ball and later substituted him. This left Karachi Kings needing nine points in the final over and they managed to tie the score.All-rounder Abbas Afridi sealed the victory by hitting Rauf for four and a six after the bowler bowled one.If the match referee confirms the infringement, Fakhar – and possibly the Lahore Qalandars – could face stiff penalties.
