It is the same catchment area. Wankhede and DY Patil are not far from each other. If a team wants to set up a base at DY Patil, it cannot happen without the approval of the Wankhede operating base. MI reasoned, ‘Why only DY Patil and not any other stadium in the country? There are many,” the source explained.

It was further learned that RCB has held detailed talks with the Chhattisgarh government to host at least two home matches in Raipur in 2026. With DY Patil no longer available, Indore becomes an option for the remaining five matches.“There were discussions when DY Patil was contesting but now it is no more and Indore is back in the fray,” the source added.

KSCA continues push for RCB match in Chinnaswamy

The Chinnaswamy Stadium has not hosted a major cricket match since the tragic stampede on June 4. The iconic venue is currently undergoing upgrades based on 17 recommendations from Justice D’Cunha’s committee, and KSCA has already initiated work on most of them. The RCB also met Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday. Chief Operating Officer Rajesh Menon, KSCA Chairman Venkatesh Prasad and several other representatives were present at the meeting.Prasad expressed optimism after Monday’s meeting, but the team continues to explore options. As the season approaches, the decision needs to be communicated to the IPL Governing Council and BCCI at the earliest to ensure a timely release of the season schedule.

A venue inspection will take place on Wednesday and some clarification is expected following a meeting of officials.“In Wednesday’s meeting, senior government, police and legal officials will discuss the actions that can be taken at the government level and instructions to be issued to the KSCA. The extent to which the issues raised by the Justice D’Cunha committee have to be considered. We need the chief minister’s approval,” Parameshwara said.
