Election Commission suspends 7 West Bengal officials for ‘serious misconduct’ related to SIR India News

New Delhi: The Election Commission has ordered the immediate suspension of seven West Bengal Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) level government officials for “serious misconduct,Neglect of Duty and Abuse of Statutory Powers,” in connection with the state’s ongoing Special Intensified Revision (SIR) proceedings.The committee has directed the West Bengal Chief Secretary to ensure that disciplinary proceedings are initiated against all seven police officers.

The officials suspended with immediate effect include Eros of Samserganj Assembly Constituency (AC); Farakka AC; Menaguri AC; Name AC; Canning Purple AC; and Debra AC.According to sources, it was observed that all these officials, while reviewing the cases finally announced by their respective audit committees, cleared multiple cases despite non-submission of prescribed documents, inconsistencies in mapping and voter eligibility and failed to take corrective action, thereby approving ineligible cases and abusing statutory powers.“Utilizing the powers conferred by Section 13CC of the RP Act, 1950, election commission of india The EC, in its order on Monday, said it has suspended seven officials from West Bengal with immediate effect for gross misconduct, dereliction of duty and abuse of statutory powers related to SIR.The committee, while ordering the respective cadre control agencies to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the officers “without delay”, said the committee should be informed in this regard.The suspended officials are Sefaur Rahaman, AERO, Samserganj AC, Murshidabad district and Assistant Director, Agriculture Department; Nitish Das, Revenue Officer, Farakka and AERO, Farakka AC;Dalia Ray Choudhury, Women Development Officer, Maynaguri; and Murshid Alam, ADA, AERO, Name Block and Name AC. Two eros of Canning Purbo AC were suspended, namely joint block development officer (BDO) Satyajit Das and FEO Joydeep Kundu. The seventh official whom the EC objected to was Debashis Biswas, BDO and AERO joint officer of Debra AC.
