ECI announces 2,926 candidates for West Bengal Assembly elections

Kolkata: election commission of india (ECI) on Tuesday announced that a total of 2,926 candidates are contesting in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, according to official news reports. West Bengal polls will be held in two phases from April 23 to 29, and the results of the assembly polls will be announced on May 4.After the final list is finalized, 1,478 candidates will contest in the first phase covering 152 constituencies, and 1,448 candidates will contest in the second phase covering 142 constituencies.According to a news report released on Tuesday, the last date for filing nominations for West Bengal (Phase II) is April 9. Review of nominations takes place on April 10 and candidates can withdraw their nominations until 3pm on April 13.The Election Commission has directed the election officials to publish the final list of candidates in the official gazette.
