Drive-by shooting in Brixton leaves four injured, one seriously

Four people were injured after reports of a shooting in a moving car in Brixton, south London, shortly after midnight on Saturday, leading to an intensive police investigation and renewed concerns about the safety of the local community. The incident occurred in Coldharbour Lane at around 1.15am BST, with Metropolitan Police officers arriving immediately after receiving an emergency report. The investigation is ongoing and a manhunt for suspects in the attack is underway, according to reports from the BBC and The Guardian, as well as press releases from the Metropolitan Police and the London Ambulance Service.The 25-year-old man is currently fighting for his life in hospital. Meanwhile, three other men, aged 21, 47 and 70, were hospitalized with injuries doctors classified as not life-threatening. All four injured were treated by paramedics at the scene and later transferred to a large trauma center and another nearby hospital.Security staff secured the area around the Southwyk House estate and carried out thorough searches on Saturday and Sunday morning. A cordon has been put in place on some sections of Coldharbour Lane and inquiries are ongoing. Investigators are examining surveillance footage and gathering witness statements to piece together a timeline of events.Apparently, witnesses described a transition from festive atmosphere to pure panic in just a few seconds. According to Moh John, a 45-year-old employee who works at a supermarket near the crime scene, he heard gunshots coming from the direction of the rally close to his workplace. Several fleeing men came towards him, forcing him to barricade the door.Another victim, Robert, 40, said that although he was indoors at the time, he thought there was a large barbecue nearby that was attracting a lot of people.Speaking about the investigation, Detective Inspector General Allam Bhangoo said the incident was an example of indiscriminate violence, adding that many in the local community shared the same concerns. Investigators said that the task force will make every effort to find the suspect and understand his motive for committing the crime.
