President of the United States Donald Trump Telling his aides that he is willing to end the war without reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has refused to lift its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz despite repeated warnings from the U.S. president. This is another soft stance that Tehran refuses to make concessions after the war between the United States and Israel. In recent days, Trump and his aides have concluded that actions to reopen strategic chokepoints could extend the conflict beyond his preferred timeline of four to six weeks, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The report added that Trump chose to focus on achieving the key goal of degrading Iran’s naval capabilities and missile stockpile before reducing active hostilities, while increasing diplomatic pressure on Tehran to restore normal trade flows. If those efforts fail, U.S. officials will look to allies in Europe and the Gulf to take the lead in reopening the strait, the report said.White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt also said that Arab countries can be asked to share the burden of military operations against Iran.“I think this is something the president would be very interested in. I wouldn’t get ahead of him on this, but it’s certainly an idea and I think you’ll be hearing more from him,” she said.Trump last week gave Iran a 10-day cooling-off period, saying the decision was in response to what he called a “gift” from Tehran, allowing eight oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and suspending planned attacks on critical energy infrastructure. He also viewed the move as a sign of progress in ongoing diplomatic efforts, adding that Iran had communicated through back channels to seek more time.

Should the United States rely on its European and Gulf allies to take the lead in reopening the Strait of Hormuz?
“They spoke to me nicely through my people and said, ‘Can we have more time?’ Because we’re talking about tomorrow night, which is quick, and if they don’t do what they have to do, I’m going to destroy their power plants,” Trump told Fox News.Beginning on February 28, the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran, and Iran retaliated, further expanding the conflict in the Gulf region. The Strait of Hormuz is an important artery for global energy flow and has since received great attention. The narrow waterway linking the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean is now effectively closed, with daily maritime traffic sharply reduced and the movement of container ships, dry bulk carriers and oil tankers disrupted.
