New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump will meet at an appropriate time, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore said on Friday while highlighting the two countries’ growing cooperation in artificial intelligence and semiconductor supply chains.Gore highlighted the importance US President Donald Trump attaches to India and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited him to visit the country.
Asked about the possibility of a meeting between PM Modi and Trump, Gore told ANI on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit: “Stay tuned, I am sure it will happen in due course.”On the prospect of a presidential visit, Gore said: “…as far as the presidential visit goes, the prime minister invited him. I don’t have any notice for you soon. The President is pleased to pay a visit to India. When he nominated me to be ambassador here, one of the things he said was that the vibrancy, colour, history and culture you would see in India was unparalleled, so I’m sure he’ll come back here at some point. “The remarks came as India signed the Silica Peace Declaration with US officials including Ambassador Eric Garcetti and Deputy Secretary of State Jacob Helberg. The initiative, led by the U.S. Department of State, focuses on cooperation in artificial intelligence and strengthening secure semiconductor supply chains among trusted partners.Gore described the partnership as a turning point in the bilateral relationship.“We are delighted that India is joining Pax Silica… If you look at the companies in attendance today, you will see that this is an incredible partnership for both of our countries and we look forward to taking it to the next level.”In his keynote speech at the summit, Gore said that by signing the initiative, both countries chose victory. He described the growing bilateral relationship as an “alliance of ability and will” and formally welcomed India as a co-founder of the Pax Silica Alliance. He said the partnership between the world’s two largest democracies was now “limitless”.He added that the initiative aims to ensure that the “commanding heights” of technology remain in the hands of free nations.Highlighting technology collaboration, Gor said, “We are looking at initiatives where the US and India can work together. Pax Silica is leading on this, AI is leading on this. We are here to send a message to India that our stack, our capabilities, our AI technology is something we want to partner with Indian companies. We are not going to make these technologies available to everyone around the world. This is something we have brought here specifically.”“Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw called the announcement an important step for India’s growing semiconductor and electronics ecosystem. Addressing the summit, he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and thanked External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.“We are not just holding a summit here; we are building the future. We are laying the foundation for the younger generation,” Vishno said, adding that India’s youth will drive and benefit from India’s decades of sustained growth.US Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment Jacob Helberg also welcomed India’s participation in the initiative. He said Pax Silica highlighted the importance of economic security translating into national security in the face of coercion and extortion that undermines national prosperity.Helberg described Pax Silica as a declaration that “the future belongs to those who build it, to those who unite free peoples.”“We don’t wait for the future to be given to us. We build it ourselves,” he said.He also praised Ambassador Sergio Gore for strengthening ties between New Delhi and Washington, saying it demonstrated “the extreme importance the United States attaches to this friendship.”The development comes soon after India participated in a ministerial meeting on critical minerals convened by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio (represented by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar) earlier this month.
