Regarding the alleged lack of law enforcement oversight at the scene, Brantner Smith offered a plausible explanation. “It could be because they have a solid suspect, but they just haven’t released that information to the public,” she said.

Smith further noted that it is not uncommon for criminals to revisit crime scenes. “Sometimes criminals return to the scene of the crime. So in that spirit, they come to the memorial and they may leave their own note, their own flowers,” she added.
